Are you supposed to eat the skin of the Brie cheese or not?

My australian friend offered Brie cheese (a wedge) and crackers as a snack, but we from the orient didnt know how we are supposed to eat it. We tried digging under the skin to get the cheese out. The skin tasted strange

Its a personal preference. The rind is edible and has a different taste/texture than the cheese it surrounds.
