I am going in for a deep gum cleaning today...how exactly do they clean under the gums?

I want to know how they clean under the gums without removing them from the skin. I am a bit scared and grossed out!

MRD,

The reason they numb you up, is because those tissues are tender. They don't clean under the gums, they clean under the GUM LINE. You must not floss your teeth, and all sorts of gunk can build up. It's usually a combination of plaque, food particles, and bacteria. This can form big pockets in the tissue that is supposed to be holding your teeth firmly. I've seen pockets that reach clear under the tooth.

Today they will clean the tooth, as far down as they can until they get to the tissue that is firmly affixed, removing all that gunk. They will be tender, but if you keep them clean, it should heal well. Some gingivitis is irreversible, but with proper care, you may be able to keep your teeth for many years to come.

Floss your teeth gently. Learn from your dental professional. They have loads of info, so ask lots of questions. Again, floss your teeth, floss your teeth, floss your teeth. They may give you samples of flossers that work best on your specific teeth.

Don't worry, they do not remove the teeth to clean them!!!!

Good luck!

first they will put some cleaning solution in your mouth, then they numb your gums with a shot. (4 total) two on top two on bottom. then they get that little hook scraper thing and go along your gum and clean them its just a little painful with the shot...the scraping doesnt hurt too much. then you will rinse and your thru
